What this tool does
A cryptographic hash turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint. The same text always gives the same digest, while a one-character change gives a completely different one. Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for integrity checks and signatures; SHA-1 is included only for legacy compatibility.
How to use it
- Paste or type the text.
- Pick an algorithm and case format.
- Copy the digest.
Questions
Is hashing the same as encryption?
No. Hashing is one-way: you cannot decrypt a digest. Encryption is reversible with the right key.
Why does my hash differ from another tool?
Check encoding, line endings and hidden spaces. This tool hashes the exact UTF-8 text, without adding a trailing newline.
Can I hash files?
This tool hashes text. For files use your OS: sha256sum, shasum -a 256 or Get-FileHash.
