What this tool does
Logs, JSON strings and source code often contain escaped Unicode. This converter turns accents, emoji and control characters into \uXXXX sequences and decodes them back, including surrogate pairs and code-point syntax.
How to use it
- Choose escape or unescape.
- Pick non-ASCII only or every character.
- Copy the result or swap it back.
Questions
How are emoji handled?
Character pairs outside the BMP are written as two UTF-16 surrogate escapes in minimal mode, so the output is valid JavaScript.
What is the difference between the scopes?
Non-ASCII escapes only characters outside the printable ASCII range; all escapes every character, including spaces and letters.
Which escape syntax can it decode?
\uXXXX, \u{XXXXX}, \xXX and the common \n, \r, \t, \\ sequences.
